Quick Look For Thursday

Good Morning!

How about mid 60's to start the day across the area this morning?  That's what we have right now.  Not many changes needed to the forecast so we'll just hit it with a quick look for today and tonight and run from there:

Have a GREAT Thursday!

April Showers Bring May Sunshine!!!

Good Evening!

Spring appears to have been replaced by summer, at least for awhile.  Unseasonably mild weather in the area today, we then cool off, but still a great stretch on tap.  Let's take a look and see what we have!

TEMPERATURES:  These things have been running 10-15 degrees above normal the last few days.  Here's a look at high temperatures around the area today:

As you can see, a summer-like air mass is in place, sending us above 80 for the first time this year.  We'll cool down to more seasonable levels over the next day or so, as a cold-core upper low meanders south of us, lowering temperatures just a bit.  Instead of lower 80's you can plan on low to mid 70's right through the weekend.  I am almost afraid to say it, maybe finally we can put the heavier jackets and such up until the fall!

PRECIPITATION:  A cold front off to the north at this hour is bringing SNOW to the Upper Peninsula, and parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Fortunately we don't have to worry about any of that here for th next week.  The only thing we have on tap precipitation wise that we need to be concerned with is the small chance of a couple of stray afternoon or evening showers each day.  My thinking is we stay pretty dry until Friday afternoon or evening.  Let's have a look at the Weather Prediction Center's thoughts on rain:

Weather Prediction Center 7 Day Forecast through 8 PM Thursday May 9th.  Plenty of rain expected along the Mississippi!
You can see off to the west of us, plenty of rain expected over the next week.  They don't need it as they are just drying out from the flooding last month.  But just look at those bullseyes of over FOUR INCHES of rain expected down around St. Louis and the Quad Cities in Iowa.  Not much here, maybe a half inch or so.

SEVERE WEATHER:  Not much on tap anywhere across the US, we do note that tomorrow and Friday Michigan does have a crack at some plain vanilla thunderstorm activity.  These will likely be lonely roamers though, not the organized marchers that we had last week to wind down April.  A pretty quiet look is on tap for the lower 48 to get us to the weekend, as the Storm Prediction Center doesn't foresee any organized severe weather anywhere after this evening.

I wanted to show you all the visible satellite image as the daylight wanes.  You can see the frontal system and the storm dropping the snow off to the north and west of us...

Visible Satellite - note the clouds in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, even into the far western U.P. of Michigan.  There's snow in those clouds!
Now it's time to take a look at a pretty nice spring forecast for Jackson and vicinity:

Tonight:  Clear skies, mild, low 54.  Wind S 4-8 MPH.

Thursday:  Mainly sunny with some passing clouds, expect these to thicken during the afternoon, a bit cooler.   High 77.  Wind S 5-10 MPH.

Thursday Night:  Becoming mainly cloudy with some breaks for stars, an outside chance of a stray shower, low 53.  Wind S 4-9 MPH.

Friday:  Continued mostly clear to start, clouds increase after lunch, leading up to perhaps a scattered shower, continued mild.  High 75.  Wind SE 6-12 MPH.

Friday Night:  Mostly moonlit and seasonably comfy.  Low 52, wind SE 4-8 MPH.

Saturday:  Partly sunny and seasonable, a bit cooler, high 71.

Sunday:  More mixed sunshine, still pleasant, high 74.

Monday:  Periods of clouds and sunshine, we can't rule out an isolated shower, high 72.

Tuesday:  Continued partly sunny, again, the chance of an afternoon shower, high 73.

There's a look at your forecast for the next six days, I do hope that you have a great evening!  Blessings.

Spring With A Taste Of Summer...

Good Morning!

We managed to survive the damp, dreary day yesterday.  I am still getting a new place to live in order, so pardon me for being away during the weekend.  I know on Thursday I forecast some showers and maybe some sun - wasn't even close.  Let's try it again today and see where we go.

TEMPERATURES:  We finally see a stretch of warmer, more seasonable weather for the early part of the week.  Temperatures should get to or above 70 today and tomorrow, and the first 80 of the year is possible Wednesday. A big difference in a year, we had already had 80's in March last year during our extended summer preview!  After we get through mid week, a cold front marches through the area, and we give back 10 to 20 degrees on the thermometer with readings back into the 60's briefly.  We should stabilize in the upper 60's or low 70's from mid-week on.  The average high this time of year in this part of Michigan is right around 66 degrees, and we don't stray too far from that after Thursday.  In the meantime, get ready for some  summer-like weather Tuesday and Wednesday!

PRECIPITATION:  You can expect a mixed bag of sorts for the next few days.  We'll have plenty of sunshine and southerly flow to boost temperatures, but along with that, we'll see some clouds and I'll add the mention of a couple of showers or maybe a roaming thunderstorm.  I don't see this being a washout as Sunday turned out to be, but I can't rule out the chance of some rain.  Keep an umbrella handy and understand that if you have anything outdoors planned early this week, you may encounter some raindrops.  Let's take a look at this map:

7 Day Precipitation Outlook
This is from the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, and this suggests that we'll see half to three-quarters of an inch in the blog.  That looks about right based on the data I am seeing at this point.

SEVERE WEATHER:  We don't see a formal risk of severe weather in Michigan for the three day window, just the chance of some garden variety thunderstorms.  The slight risk isn't all that far away, out over Iowa, Illinois, and southwest Wisconsin.  Low tornado risk associated with that, the Storm Prediction Center is thinking the primary threats are wind and perhaps some hail.

Let's have a look at the visible satellite image:

There you see the clouds in the area on the way out, but again - don't be shocked to see a stray shower or storm later today.

No rain in the area currently on the Grand Rapids NEXRAD.

Here's the forecast for Jackson and surrounding areas including Parma and Grass Lake:

Today, increasing sunshine as the day progresses, but we can't rule out the chance of a pop-up afternoon shower or thunderstorm,  high 71.  Wind SW 6-12 MPH.

Tonight, a mixture of moonlight and clouds, a shower or storm is possible, lows near 50.  Wind S 7-14 MPH.

Tuesday, almost an instant replay of Monday.  Clouds, a few breaks for sunshine a chance of a stray shower, warmer, high 77.  Wind S 5-10 MPH.

Tuesday night, partly cloudy skies, we can't eliminate the mention of an isolated shower or storm, low 57.  Wind S 6-12 MPH.

Wednesday, more sun than clouds - very warm, high 82.

Thursday, mainly cloudy, a chance of some showers or a thunderstorm, cooler, high 75.

Friday, continued periods of clouds and sunshine, cooler still, high 70.

Saturday, clouds give way to sunshine, a bit warmer, high 73.

Sunday, partly to mostly sunny, seasonable, high 69.

There's a look at your forecast for the next six days, I do hope that you have a great day!  Blessings!
