Keepin' It Hot For You...

Good Morning!

Yep, this hot and miserable weather pattern will continue for another few days, but relief is on the way for the weekend...in theory.  Let's talk about it...

TEMPERATURES:  We see the triple digit highs and the heat index values 105 or better for another couple of days, then things finally start to cool down toward the end of the weekend, as the high pressure ridge and the associated heat dome retreat southwestward according to the forecast models.  We'll see temperatures that feel downright cool, but are in fact seasonable, with daytime highs rolling back to the 80's.  Nighttime lows should finally drop below 70 as well.

RAIN:  We got a brief taste of rain last night with a roaming thunderstorm moving through the area.  Didn't drop much on Jackson though, so he didn't even do much for the drought we are in.  The pattern of everything missing us north, south, or forming to the east and then moving should continue until the cold front comes in late this weekend, but the chance at an occasional pop-up shower or a few thunderstorms that form in the open and then combine into an unruly mob as they travel is still in the mix.  For the most part though, high pressure equals sinking air that gets compressed near the surface which equals HOT.  Storm systems have to work around the edge of the ridge, as they generally can't bulldoze into it and drop rain.

SEVERE WEATHER:  The Storm Prediction Center has us in a "general" risk, which translates into a 5% chance of severe weather.  SPC isn't sure how the atmosphere dynamics will stack up for this afternoon just yet, especially after the early morning storm complex rolled through.  Another "general" risk for Day 2, and nothing in Michigan for Day 3 just yet.

Here's a look at the forecast for Jackson County:

Today, Sunny, HOT!  A chance at an isolated shower or thunderstorm this afternoon, high 100, heat index values near 110 during peak heating.  Winds SW 5-10 MPH.

Tonight, mainly clear still quite warm, still a chance at a shower or storm, low only 72, winds SW 5-10 MPH.

The usual extended 6-Day forecast will follow this afternoon.  Blessings!
