A Shot Of Mild Sauce For The Weekend...

Good Evening!

I hope that you are enjoying some good family time and some Christmas Dinner.  I know there are thousands in Mid-Michigan that do not have power or heat right now thanks the ice storm from earlier in the week. Tuis will definitely be a Christmas to remember, and not in a good way. We are blessed to have power and heat here in the south zone of the blog.  Let's get in here and see what we have going on...

Here's a look at Tru-Track Doppler Radar, showing the snow filtering into the area...

COLD AND MORE SNOW:  Very cold conditions continue for the next couple of days, but a brief warmup is on the way.  Another shot of snow for tonight and into tomorrow for those venturing out to find some after Christmas deals in the stores.  Another quick hit of snow is possible on Friday, then milder, at least for Saturday.  I expect accumulations to stay around an inch, heavier in the snow box.

MODERATING TEMPERATURES FOR A BIT:  Forecast model data suggests a daytime high right around freezing for Friday, and on Saturday, highs near 40.  After that, we drop back into the teens and 20's range.  Well below average, when you consider that we typically are around 31 degrees this time of year here in Michigan.

ANOTHER CRACK AT SOME SNOW ON SUNDAY:  We could see another burst of snow on Sunday, as a low tracks across the northern half of Michigan.  This one doesn't look to be particularly strong, but what it does do is make the freezer door stand open and allow frigid air in from north of the border.  As it stands now the warmest day we see through midweek is Monday, the GFS forecast model is printing a high of 24, but I wouldn't be shocked to see us only make it 22.

Here's the forecast for Jackson and vicinity:

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  If you've been displaced or impacted by the ice storm, I hope that you will soon be back to normal.  Blessings.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Quick Look For The Holiday...

Good Morning!

Lunchtime is almost here and plenty of clouds in the area, along with a touch of snow.  Here's the big picture for the next several days:

And here's a look at Tru-Track Doppler at this hour:

WHAT'S GOING ON NOW:  The storm system that impacted us with ice and shut down or inconvenienced a good portion of mid-Michigan is now in New England, doing the same thing to them.  Colder temperatures and cloudy skies in the area for now, I expect those to persist with maybe just the slightest bit of clearing tomorrow.  Don't expect to see the freezing mark again until the weekend - we do get close on Christmas, along with adding some snowflakes.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY:  Christmas Eve will see temperatures in the 20's with wind chills in the teens.  Snow develops in some spots for Santa to make his drops, other spots see it after daybreak Christmas Day.  The good news, is that I do not see any significant travel impacts if you're heading home for Christmas anytime between now and Tuesday night.  If you're in the snow box over by the lake, the lake effect snow machine will be on, west-northwesterly winds blowing over the warmer lake water will create some snow west of US-131 - as usual.  Not a stellar day to test out the new sleds, snowboards and toboggans, but some snow to make it look pretty for Christmas.  The high side looks like 2" in this area, maybe 3-4" in the snow box.

AFTER CHRISTMAS:  We get the system out of here Christmas night, and after a cloudy Thursday, it actually clears off a bit.

Here's the forecast:

Today, cloudy skies, a few snowflakes, high 27.  Wind WNW 8-13 MPH keeps wind chills down in the teens.

Tonight, still cloudy, some snow flurries or a dusting, lows near 18. Wind WNW 6-12 MPH.

Christmas Eve, mainly cloudy, perhaps some PM sunshine, high 22.

Christmas Day, snow, diminishing in the afternoon, perhaps an inch of snow.  High 29.

There's a look at your forecast, details and six day planner on the way.  Have a great day!
