They Call It Stormy Monday...

Good Morning!

More warm and steamy weather will bring showers and storms and a dose of severe weather into South Central Michigan today.  Let's dive in and have a look.

SLIGHT RISK FOR MOST OF THE LOWER PENINSULA:  The Storm Prediction Center has placed the southeastern two-thirds of the state into the standard "slight" risk category for severe weather.  Here's a look at the map...

Here you see the "slight" risk for Michigan, the line runs from roughly Tawas City to Cassopolis.
A cold front approaching from the west is the culprit.  I expect primarily some hail and damaging straight-line winds as the primary threats, but we can't rule out a tornado or two.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS:  The low pressure center that brought all modes of weather to the Great Plains, including heavy rains, blizzard conditions in the Dakota, and tornadoes in Tornado Alley will be lifting northeast today.  Skies will cloud up and by 3 PM, showers and thunderstorms will be in the Great Lakes, including Michigan.  Here's a look at the NAM computer model FutureCast...

As you can see, showers and storms are definitely in the mix for this afternoon.  Temperatures will fall 15 degrees or so on the back side of the frontal boundary, with cloudy skies, but the rains will be out of here tonight for the most part.

CLEARING AND COOLER:  Tuesday will bring some clearing skies and seasonable conditions to the area, with readings rolling back into the 60's, which is about 10 degrees below average for this time of the year.  Most areas are typically right around 70, and we have been above that in recent days.  I'm expecting a high of about 80 before the storms roll in.

Here's the forecast for Jackson and surrounding areas including Parma and Rives Junction...

Today - Increasing clouds, afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing, some could be severe. High 80. Winds SSW 9-18 MPH.

Tonight - Showers and storms start to taper off late as the cold front moves through, lows roll back to the 50's.  Winds SW 7-14 MPH.

Tuesday - More clouds than sunshine and much cooler, high 60.  Winds SW 6-12 MPH.

Tuesday Night - Periods of clouds and stars, chilly, lows near 40.

Wednesday - Partly sunny, continued cooler than average, high 62.

Thursday - Sunny skies to start, increasing clouds as the next weather-maker approaches, some PM showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two developing, high 66.

Friday - Cloudy, periods of showers and a couple of PM thunderstorms, high 68.

Saturday - Mainly cloudy, some peeks of sunshine, warmer, high 76.

Sunday - Partly sunny, warmer still, high 79.

There's a look at your forecast for the next several days, I hope that you have a wonderful day!  Blessings.
