THUNDERSTORM ADVISORY - JACKSON, HILLSDALE, WASHTENAW, LENAWEE

NOTE:  At this time, NO OFFICIAL WARNING FOR THESE STORMS HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.   That being said - Jackson, Washtenaw, Hillsdale, Lenawee - get ready for some strong storms moving from SW to NE about 40-50 MPH.  Hillsdale and south Jackson, the storms are there, Washtenaw and Lenawee, expect them in about an hour unless they weaken as they come north.  Gusty winds and pea-sized hail have been associated with these storms recently.  Have a look:

Be prepared to head into a substantial structure until these guys blow through!

Plenty Of Advisories...

As I advertised earlier, there's a lot of weather information in effect, let's run it down:

FLOOD WARNING - Clinton, Shiawassee, Ingham Counties - Until 8 AM April 14th.  Rivers in these counties are expected to reach flood stage and exceed that level by as much as a foot, due to a stationary front dropping significant rain over the area the next three days.

FLOOD WATCH - Jackson, Calhoun, Eaton, Lenawee, Livingston, Washtenaw Counties - Until 8 PM Thursday April 11th.  The stationary front mentioned in the warning above will, of course, increase the risk of flooding in these counties as well.  Do not be surprised to see flood warnings post for additional areas as time passes.

A stationary front bringing showers and the occasional thunderstorm is parked just south of us, over central Illinois and Indiana.  Showers and thunderstorms are firing and traveling northeast from where the boundary is.  We expect this to persist over the next couple of days.

Stay tuned.  Also check weather.gov and local media for watches/warnings.

HIGH WIND ADVISORY

Hello.  Every county in the blog is under a High Wind Advisory until 9PM EDT.  This is for winds gusting to 45 MPH associated with the passage of an upper impulse.

Secure anything you don't want blown around or away, and watch for power lines to be downed.  High Profile vehicles may be difficult to drive, use caution.

Rainy Days And Mondays...

Good Morning!

I had the right idea but my timing was all wrong.  We have showers in the area right now, and we expect them to continue in periods for quite awhile.  There is also the chance of a few scattered thunderstorms as well.  Let's take a deeper dive and see what we have here:

YOU SAID WE'D SEE SOME SUN MIKE:  I did say exactly that.  The timing was off about 3-4 hours.    The showers in the area now I expected anytime after about 1 PM.  They will come and go in spurts due to an upper disturbance working through the area.  A couple of rumbles of thunder are possible as well into tonight and tomorrow.  You just may get a brief break in the clouds for a smattering of sun in some areas though, because these showers are fairly hit or miss except for the line moving thru Centreville, and up into Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.  Have a look at the radar:

Grand Rapids NEXRAD Radar
WET NEXT FEW DAYS:  The pattern of scattered showers with a possible occasional thunderstorm will be the rule through Wednesday as a series of upper disturbances ripple through a quick-moving low level jet.  Expect this setup through Wednesday night when a surface low moves through, and the cold front he drags with him drops temperatures back into the upper 40's and lower 50's.  Have a look at the latest precipitation map from the Weather Prediction Center:

5 Day Precipitation Forecast Map.  Plenty of rain headed our way!
This is a VERY wet look,  with a bullseye of almost 4 inches sitting right over Grand Rapids, and just a bit less in this part of the state.  I would not at all be surprised to see some flood issues the next few days.

SHARPLY COOLER LATE WEEK:  After that low and cold front get out of here Wednesday night, expect high temps to stay in the 45-49 range through Saturday.  My suspicion is that we'll be even a couple of degrees cooler than that until Saturday, as I expect lingering showers in the area.  The weekend is looking a bit better, with fair skies, and temperatures back into their spring-like 50's regime.

SEVERE WEATHER:  Nothing regarding a formal risk from the Storm Prediction Center at this time but we do note a fairly large chunk of the lower 48 expecting some garden variety storms with a "slight" risk through Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska.

Here's a look at the satellite:

And here's the forecast:

Today, cloudy skies with periods of scattered showers and perhaps a buried PM thunderstorm, high 60.  Winds becoming SSW 10-20 MPH.

Tonight, mainly cloudy skies, perhaps a stray shower before 1 AM, cooler, lows near 38, wind SE 4-8 MPH.

Tuesday, cloudy skies, scattered showers and a couple of  thunderstorms likely, mild, high 65.  Wind ESE 4-9 MPH.

Tuesday night, continued overcast, scattered showers and a few storms still in the area, lows near 43.  Wind SW 5-10 MPH.

Wednesday, still cloudy, some lingering showers and maybe a roaming thunderstorm possible, high 60.

Thursday, more clouds, more rain.  Much cooler, high 47.

Friday, mainly cloudy, some hit or miss showers are possible, high 45.

Saturday, some clouds and sunshine mix, milder air returns, high 55.

I hope you have a great Monday!  Blessings.

Good Morning!

On the move today, so here is a quick look at the next three days in the Big 3 of the blog:

We note clouds in the area right now, and blustery conditions with winds in Jackson 15-25 MPH, gusting to near 30.  This will likely be the only update today unless severe weather threatens, which we DO NOT anticipate today.  Blessings!
