Warming Is Afoot...

Good Morning!

A bright sunny day to start here in South Central Michigan, but we will pick up some clouds as the day wears on.  Let's pop the hood and see what's running in there!

SUMMARY:  A high amplitude ridge/trough upper air pattern is in place over the nation today, with us still firmly in the trough, though this will change as the ridge pushes eastward into the latter part of the week.  Here in the cold Canada air, highs in the mid 40's and lows from 25-30, a bit colder still in some places due to wind or low terrain.  Tonight we'll see cold temps again as it looks like mostly starry skies with dry air, so the clouds that hold heat in like a blanket aren't there, so bye-bye solar heating after dark!

The good news is that by Saturday, the ridge pushes far enough east to moderate temperatures and bring us readings well into the 50's with even a 60 here and there possible.  We'll keep things dry here into Friday, but when the really mild stuff shows, it'll bring a chance at some scattered showers along with it.  More on that below.

PRECIPITATION:  It's that time of year when I have to stop labeling this section "rain" and allow for the chance of something other than rain falling on you.  Fortunately for this weekend that's not the case.  We keep things dry through Friday afternoon, then introduce a chance of scattered showers as some really mild weather works into the area.  Here's what the National Weather Service thinks about our rain chances the next five days:

5 Day Precipitation Forecast through 7 AM EST Monday 11/12

We'll keep a mention of some rain or scattered showers in the forecast through the middle of next week as the upper air patterns evolve, with another trough and an associated cold front digging it's way here.  The best chances of rain look like Saturday evening then again on Monday, but we don't get any higher than a near 50/50 shot at rain.  Monday's rain chances should be courtesy of a cold front that pulls temperatures back to seasonable levels from the weekend.

NORTHEAST STORM:  The Nor'easter cranking up in the northern Appalachians and into New England looks to be a snowy one.  They need that out there like they need a hole in the head, with more than a few areas still reeling from Hurricane Sandy.  Winter Weather Alerts are up in PA, NJ, NY, CT, ME.  Have a look at the NEXRAD radar from New York City.  Most of that reflectivity return is snow and not rain...

New York City NEXRAD Radar Reflectivity
The storm center looks to remain offshore, but it's still close enough to create more than a few headaches for those in that part of the world for the next couple of days.  The good news is that storm is a non-factor for us here, unlike Sandy, who was so big when she came ashore that her wind field affected us almost half a country away!

Sunny skies in the area right now, here's the forecast for Jackson and surrounding areas including Concord and Waterloo Township:

Today, sunshine mixes with some afternoon clouds, high 45, winds WSW 5-10 MPH.

Tonight, clear and cold, low 28, winds variable through 5-6 MPH.

Thursday, sunny skies, a bit warmer, high 47, winds SW 4-8 MPH.

Thursday night, a mix of clouds and stars, not as cold, lows near freezing, winds SW 3-6 MPH.

Friday, periods of clouds and sunshine, warmer, high 52.

Saturday, cloudy skies, a chance of scattered showers, warmer still, high 60.

Sunday, periods of clouds and sunshine, some stray showers can't be ruled out, high 62.

Monday, mainly cloudy, cooler, an even money chance at some showers, high near 52.

Tuesday, continued cloudy with some passing showers, clouds start to thin out later in the day, high only 41.

There's a look at your six day forecast, I do hope that you have a great hump day!  Blessings.

Quick Look At Wednesday

Good Morning!

Now that Election 2012 is in the books, time to focus on the weather once again.  Warming here in Michigan, Nor'easter in progress off the upper East Coast.  Here's my forecast for us here in South Central Michigan today:

Election Day Quick Look

Good Morning!

I said that the temperatures likely wouldn't drop out of the 20's last night...you wouldn't know it, owing to the wind chills as low as 15 in some places, with a few of those still below 20.  No rain or snow expected though, so it's time to rock the vote and make your voice heard.  Here's the Super Tuesday forecast:

I'll have a warming six day forecast for you here later.  For those wondering about the big Northeast storm or Nor'Easter we expect for later this week in the same areas that Sandy made a mess of, current forecast models have shifted it a bit more east, out to sea.  It now looks like a close shave for Boston and Cape Cod, with a NJ/NY getting a moderate sideswipe, there's still some heavy snow involved though.

Remember to vote, have a GREAT Tuesday!

Clear & Chilly Now, Warming On The Way!

Good Morning!

Clear skies and chilly conditions on tap for the area for the next several days.  We'll see temperatures during the days in the mid 40's with sub-freezing lows.  Some frost will be possible the next few nights and you'll need to scrape the car windows in the mornings.  Changes are in the works for late in the week, let's pop the hood and see what we have running in there.

SUMMARY:  An upper air ridge-trough pattern will persist over the nation for the next several days, and we'll be in the trough.  As a result, our flow is west and northwesterly, reinforcing the cool Canadian high we have over us right now.  Don't expect that pattern to change until late in the week, when everything flattens out some, and we even get a bit of ridging in the area to moderate temperatures a bit.  Readings will rise to around the mid 40's through the middle of the week, then we break into the 50's and perhaps even a 60 late this week.  We'll see some scattered clouds here and there, but primarily clear and cold.

PRECIPITATION:  As far as precipitation, not a whole lot of that in the mix for the next several days in this part of the world.  Tuesday, we get some clouds back, and we might see a mix of rain and snow in the evening, but that's about all.  As the temperatures start moving upward, the S word leaves the forecast for awhile.  Here's a look at the five day precipitation forecast from the National Weather Service:

5 Day Precipitation Forecast
Not much to see here in Michigan, a quarter inch tops through 7AM Saturday, and that looks about right.  Wednesday and maybe Friday look like the best chances to pick up a little rain.  One place they won't be able to escape snow is in New England, as forecast models indicate a low that will have completed sliding down the back slope of an eastward tracking trough slipping offshore over Georgia, then turning north, following a fairly similar track to Hurricane Sandy, except a lot closer inland.  That low hugs the East Coast until it gets up near New York and New Jersey, where it runs into high pressure centered off Nova Scotia.  That will turn the low northeast, back into the same areas that Sandy hit, and by then, that low will be a full blown Nor'Easter with rain and wind, plus wet snow in higher elevations.

SEVERE WEATHER:  Nothing in this part of the world for the next three days, and it looks like the only places that will have to address severe weather will be the areas affected by Sandy as the surface low does it's thing and morphs into a Nor'Easter, and southeast Texas and southern Louisiana, with a risk of strong hail-producing blowhard thunderstorms.

Clear skies in the area right now, but chilly....

And here's your forecast for Jackson and surrounding communities including Rives Junction and Parma:

For today, mostly sunny skies with a few passing clouds in the afternoon, high 41, winds NW 5-8 MPH.

Tonight, mainly starry skies, again a few clouds may float by, expect some frost with chilly conditions, and nighttime lows all the way down to 23, winds ESE 3-8 MPH.  Low-lying areas may see more substantial frost and temperatures down around 17 degrees.

Tuesday, mainly clear, a touch warmer with daytime highs near 44, SW winds 4-8 MPH.

Tuesday night, clear early then clouds start to increase, not quite as cold with nighttime lows around freezing. Winds ESE 3-7 MPH.

Wednesday, becoming cloudy, warmer still, a slight chance of a lone shower, high 46.

Thursday, sunny and seasonably pleasant, high 49.

Friday, partly sunny and warmer still, high 54.

Saturday, plenty of mixed sunshine with some scattered clouds, unseasonably warm, high 57.

Sunday, partly cloudy skies, warmer still, a chance of a stray shower later in the day, high 59.

There's a look at your forecast for the next six days, I do hope that you have a great day!  Blessings.

Quick Look For Monday!

Good Morning!

A chilly back to work it is with temperatures in the upper teens in a few places this morning at sunrise.  The clear skies overnight allowed all the heat to dissipate and leave us chilly and frosty.  We keep the sun around but only manage to get to the low 40's under the Canadian high pressure we have in the area right now.  Here's my forecast for you for today:

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Quick Look For Sunday Night

Good Evening!

I missed you guys yesterday, but dealing with an unexpected car repair and such...life does happen.  Clear skies and chilly conditions prevail tonight and into tomorrow.  Here's the forecast for tonight:

I am working on a forecast discussion for the new week, including a shot at some 50's and maybe even 60's late this week, and a likely Nor'Easter adding insult to injury in New York and New Jersey.  I'll have a detailed look at the weather for you later!
