Warming Is Afoot...

Good Morning!

A bright sunny day to start here in South Central Michigan, but we will pick up some clouds as the day wears on.  Let's pop the hood and see what's running in there!

SUMMARY:  A high amplitude ridge/trough upper air pattern is in place over the nation today, with us still firmly in the trough, though this will change as the ridge pushes eastward into the latter part of the week.  Here in the cold Canada air, highs in the mid 40's and lows from 25-30, a bit colder still in some places due to wind or low terrain.  Tonight we'll see cold temps again as it looks like mostly starry skies with dry air, so the clouds that hold heat in like a blanket aren't there, so bye-bye solar heating after dark!

The good news is that by Saturday, the ridge pushes far enough east to moderate temperatures and bring us readings well into the 50's with even a 60 here and there possible.  We'll keep things dry here into Friday, but when the really mild stuff shows, it'll bring a chance at some scattered showers along with it.  More on that below.

PRECIPITATION:  It's that time of year when I have to stop labeling this section "rain" and allow for the chance of something other than rain falling on you.  Fortunately for this weekend that's not the case.  We keep things dry through Friday afternoon, then introduce a chance of scattered showers as some really mild weather works into the area.  Here's what the National Weather Service thinks about our rain chances the next five days:

5 Day Precipitation Forecast through 7 AM EST Monday 11/12

We'll keep a mention of some rain or scattered showers in the forecast through the middle of next week as the upper air patterns evolve, with another trough and an associated cold front digging it's way here.  The best chances of rain look like Saturday evening then again on Monday, but we don't get any higher than a near 50/50 shot at rain.  Monday's rain chances should be courtesy of a cold front that pulls temperatures back to seasonable levels from the weekend.

NORTHEAST STORM:  The Nor'easter cranking up in the northern Appalachians and into New England looks to be a snowy one.  They need that out there like they need a hole in the head, with more than a few areas still reeling from Hurricane Sandy.  Winter Weather Alerts are up in PA, NJ, NY, CT, ME.  Have a look at the NEXRAD radar from New York City.  Most of that reflectivity return is snow and not rain...

The storm center looks to remain offshore, but it's still close enough to create more than a few headaches for those in that part of the world for the next couple of days.  The good news is that storm is a non-factor for us here, unlike Sandy, who was so big when she came ashore that her wind field affected us almost half a country away!

Sunny skies in the area right now, here's the forecast for Jackson and surrounding areas including Concord and Waterloo Township:

Today, sunshine mixes with some afternoon clouds, high 45, winds WSW 5-10 MPH.

Tonight, clear and cold, low 28, winds variable through 5-6 MPH.

Thursday, sunny skies, a bit warmer, high 47, winds SW 4-8 MPH.

Thursday night, a mix of clouds and stars, not as cold, lows near freezing, winds SW 3-6 MPH.

Friday, periods of clouds and sunshine, warmer, high 52.

Saturday, cloudy skies, a chance of scattered showers, warmer still, high 60.

Sunday, periods of clouds and sunshine, some stray showers can't be ruled out, high 62.

Monday, mainly cloudy, cooler, an even money chance at some showers, high near 52.

Tuesday, continued cloudy with some passing showers, clouds start to thin out later in the day, high only 41.

There's a look at your six day forecast, I do hope that you have a great hump day!  Blessings.
