April Showers Bring May Sunshine!!!

Good Evening!

Spring appears to have been replaced by summer, at least for awhile.  Unseasonably mild weather in the area today, we then cool off, but still a great stretch on tap.  Let's take a look and see what we have!

TEMPERATURES:  These things have been running 10-15 degrees above normal the last few days.  Here's a look at high temperatures around the area today:

As you can see, a summer-like air mass is in place, sending us above 80 for the first time this year.  We'll cool down to more seasonable levels over the next day or so, as a cold-core upper low meanders south of us, lowering temperatures just a bit.  Instead of lower 80's you can plan on low to mid 70's right through the weekend.  I am almost afraid to say it, maybe finally we can put the heavier jackets and such up until the fall!

PRECIPITATION:  A cold front off to the north at this hour is bringing SNOW to the Upper Peninsula, and parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Fortunately we don't have to worry about any of that here for th next week.  The only thing we have on tap precipitation wise that we need to be concerned with is the small chance of a couple of stray afternoon or evening showers each day.  My thinking is we stay pretty dry until Friday afternoon or evening.  Let's have a look at the Weather Prediction Center's thoughts on rain:

Weather Prediction Center 7 Day Forecast through 8 PM Thursday May 9th.  Plenty of rain expected along the Mississippi!
You can see off to the west of us, plenty of rain expected over the next week.  They don't need it as they are just drying out from the flooding last month.  But just look at those bullseyes of over FOUR INCHES of rain expected down around St. Louis and the Quad Cities in Iowa.  Not much here, maybe a half inch or so.

SEVERE WEATHER:  Not much on tap anywhere across the US, we do note that tomorrow and Friday Michigan does have a crack at some plain vanilla thunderstorm activity.  These will likely be lonely roamers though, not the organized marchers that we had last week to wind down April.  A pretty quiet look is on tap for the lower 48 to get us to the weekend, as the Storm Prediction Center doesn't foresee any organized severe weather anywhere after this evening.

I wanted to show you all the visible satellite image as the daylight wanes.  You can see the frontal system and the storm dropping the snow off to the north and west of us...

Visible Satellite - note the clouds in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, even into the far western U.P. of Michigan.  There's snow in those clouds!
Now it's time to take a look at a pretty nice spring forecast for Jackson and vicinity:

Tonight:  Clear skies, mild, low 54.  Wind S 4-8 MPH.

Thursday:  Mainly sunny with some passing clouds, expect these to thicken during the afternoon, a bit cooler.   High 77.  Wind S 5-10 MPH.

Thursday Night:  Becoming mainly cloudy with some breaks for stars, an outside chance of a stray shower, low 53.  Wind S 4-9 MPH.

Friday:  Continued mostly clear to start, clouds increase after lunch, leading up to perhaps a scattered shower, continued mild.  High 75.  Wind SE 6-12 MPH.

Friday Night:  Mostly moonlit and seasonably comfy.  Low 52, wind SE 4-8 MPH.

Saturday:  Partly sunny and seasonable, a bit cooler, high 71.

Sunday:  More mixed sunshine, still pleasant, high 74.

Monday:  Periods of clouds and sunshine, we can't rule out an isolated shower, high 72.

Tuesday:  Continued partly sunny, again, the chance of an afternoon shower, high 73.

There's a look at your forecast for the next six days, I do hope that you have a great evening!  Blessings.
