One More Nice Day, Some Rain Headed In...

Good Morning!

If you look closely in South Central Michigan, some of the trees are already starting to show some fall colors.  It certainly won't feel that way for the next few days though.  Let's pop the hood and see what we have going on...

TEMPERATURES:  We'll see temperatures stay in the 77 to 84 range over the next several days, even though we get to or touch 90 again today in places throughout the blog, especially in the south zone.  A front is making it's way through Illinois and Wisconsin at this hour, and we will begin to feel the impact of that system late this evening and into tonight, with a wind shift and developing precipitation.  Our evenings will be cooler than they have been, with lows beginning to give an autumn look, parking in the lower or mid 50's during the overnight hours.  All in all, a late summer/early fall pattern.

RAIN:  We'll definitely pick up some rain late this evening and tonight, as the front approaches, some scattered showers and thunderstorms will fire in the area, giving us some welcome rain.  Don't forget we are still in a drought situation, so any rain that we get is welcome and needed.  Here's what the National Weather Service thinks our rain picture for the next five days looks like...

5 Day Precipitation Forecast, note the high rain forecast totals from Isaac in the Southeast US!
Just look at that rain zone from Isaac for the next five days - flooding will definitely be an issue in low lying and coastal areas.  Here's in Michigan, we have one wild card that could indirectly affect us, and that's soon to be Hurricane Isaac.  Computer forecast models regarding him have done two things: 1) shifted the landfall bullseye west, more over Alabama and Louisiana than in past days, and 2) the extended outlook loops a n Isaac remnant low pressure system through Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.  Depending on how that low track shapes up in reality, we could have some unsettled weather as a result.  So while no direct impact from Isaac, what's left of him could interact with things up this way and create some precipitation midweek.

SEVERE WEATHER:  Again, a pretty quiet look as a whole on the severe weather end of it for this part of the world, just some general thunderstorm activity due to the approaching frontal system tonight.  In fact, for the next three days, all of your significant severe weather risk is related to Isaac and basically confined to the Gulf Coast from Louisiana east to Florida and the Keys.  Just a general risk for Michigan today and tomorrow.

Visible satellite and radar composite overlay tell the story, you can see the approaching front and the showers and storms associated with it, nothing but sunny skies with some high clouds in the area at this hour...
