SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE #1 12:45 PM EST

Hello. Off to the southwest, the main event has kicked off with severe thunderstorms and tornadic weather in central and northern Illinois.  Here's what we have as a broad overview to get you up to speed:

Expect thunderstorms with winds 60 MPH or better, and some long-track, long life, dangerous, wide tornadoes if you're in the high risk area.

As stated, this is a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) Tornado Watch until 8 PM EST.

I am reviewing data and generating graphics as quickly as I can, so please stay tuned.  Working two jobs to take care of the family makes it hard to get rolling sometimes, but I will do the best I can for you here.

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

   * TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
     INDIANA
     FAR NORTHERN KENTUCKY
     LOWER MICHIGAN
     WESTERN OHIO
     LAKE HURON
     LAKE MICHIGAN

   * EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY MORNING AND EVENING FROM 1120 AM UNTIL
     800 PM EST.

   ...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION...

   * PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
     SEVERAL INTENSE TORNADOES LIKELY
     NUMEROUS DAMAGING WIND GUSTS LIKELY WITH SEVERAL SIGNIFICANT
       GUSTS TO 80 MPH POSSIBLE
     SEVERAL LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER LIKELY

   MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES SOUTHEAST OF
   BLOOMINGTON INDIANA TO 55 MILES NORTHWEST OF SAGINAW MICHIGAN.

PDS TORNADO WATCH ISSUED

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the southern two-thirds of lower Michigan.  THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

It's in effect from now until 8 PM.  Stay tuned to local media and here on the blog for updates.

Quick Update - We'll See Some Snow!

Hello Again!

Just a quick update to let you know that I have had the chance to look at a bit of weather data and analyze it with the aid of a couple of winter forecasting tools that I had to reinitialize.  Looks like south central Michigan may see snow and accumulating snow.  How much you ask?  Possibly up to 2" up in the north zone (Lansing, St. John's) and perhaps an inch give or take in the south zone (Jackson, Battle Creek, Hillsdale, Adrian).

Data is suggesting if it hasn't already started, it should soon, and should be winding down by about 7 PM.  That being said, be prepared for a slower than normal trip home from work.  We'll advise you of any further changes.
